Susan Wood, director of FDA’s Office of Women’s Health, announced her resignation in an e-mail to colleagues at the agency. The e-mail was released by contraception advocates.

The FDA on Friday postponed indefinitely its decision on whether to allow the morning-after pill, called Plan B, to sell without a prescription. The agency said it was safe for adults to use without a doctor’s guidance, but said young teenagers still needed a prescription and that it couldn’t determine how to enforce an age limit, a decision contrary to the advice of its own scientific advisers.

«I can no longer serve as staff when scientific and clinical evidence, fully evaluated and recommended for approval by the professional staff here, has been overruled,» wrote Wood, who also was assistant commissioner for women’s health. «The recent decision announced by the Commissioner about emergency contraception, which continues to limit women’s access to a product that would reduce unintended pregnancies and reduce abortions, is contrary to my core commitment to improving and advancing women’s health.»

Wood, a biologist, joined FDA’s women’s health office in 2000, after directing women’s health programs at its parent agency, the Department of Health and Human Services. She has worked as a research scientist and a prominent congressional adviser.

FDA spokeswoman Suzanne Trevino did not immediately comment on the resignation.

The morning-after pill is a high dose of regular birth control that, 온라인카지노 taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, can lower the risk of pregnancy by up to 89 percent.

Contraceptive advocates and doctors groups say easier access could halve the nation’s 3 million annual unintended pregnancies

In a surprise move, the Food and Drug Administration postponed for at least 60 days a final decision on how to allow nonprescription sales of the morning-after pill called Plan B just to women 17 or older.

«Enforceability is the key question,» said FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford.

The drug’s maker, Barr Pharmaceuticals, criticized the decision, questioning how the agency could acknowledge that scientific evidence supported nonprescription sales and yet not allow those sales to begin.

«It’s like being in purgatory,» said Barr chief executive Bruce Downey.

The morning-after pill is a high dose of regular birth control that, taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, can lower the risk of pregnancy by up to 89 percent.

It was Barr’s latest disappointment in the two-year battle to sell Plan B without a prescription. Contraceptive advocates and doctors groups say easier access could halve the nation’s 3 million annual unintended pregnancies. FDA’s scientists say the pills are safe, used by more than 2.4 million Americans and millions more women abroad with few side effects.

The agency’s independent scientific advisers overwhelmingly backed over-the-counter sales for everybody, not just adults, in December 2003.

FDA rejected that recommendation, citing concern about young teens’ use of the pills without a doctor’s guidance. Barr reapplied, asking that women 16 and older be allowed to buy Plan B without a prescription while younger teens continue to get a doctor’s note. Downey said the company thought it had satisfied all of FDA’s scientific and legal concerns about how to do that — noting that cigarettes are sold in drugstores with age restrictions.

Friday, FDA essentially boiled the issue down to regulatory precedent: Selling the same dose of a drug by prescription and without at the same time and for the same medical use has never been done. The FDA will allow 60 days of public comment on how to take such a step and enforce an age limit, 온라인카지노 but Crawford would not say how soon the agency could evaluate those comments and rule.

Of course, too much coffee can make people jittery and even raise cholesterol levels, so food experts stress moderation.

The findings by Joe A. Vinson, a chemistry professor at the University of Scranton, in Pennsylvania, give a healthy boost to the warming beverage.

«The point is, people are getting the most antioxidants from beverages, as opposed to what you might think,» Vinson said in a telephone interview.

Antioxidants, which are thought to help battle cancer and provide other health benefits, are abundant in grains, tomatoes and many other fruits and vegetables.

Vinson said he was researching tea and cocoa and other foods and decided to study coffee, too.

His team analyzed the antioxidant content of more than 100 different food items, including vegetables, fruits, nuts, spices, oils and common beverages. They then used Agriculture Department data on typical food consumption patterns to calculate how much antioxidant each food contributes to a person’s diet.

They concluded that the average adult consumes 1,299 milligrams of antioxidants daily from coffee. The closest competitor was tea at 294 milligrams. Rounding out the top five sources were bananas, 76 milligrams; dry beans, 72 milligrams; and corn, 48 milligrams. According to the Agriculture Department, the typical adult American drinks 1.64 cups of coffee daily.

That does not mean coffee is a substitute for fruit and vegetables.

«Unfortunately, consumers are still not eating enough fruits and vegetables, which are better for you from an overall nutritional point of view due to their higher content of vitamins, minerals and fiber,» Vinson said.

Dates, cranberries and red grapes are among the leading fruit sources of antioxidants, he said.

The antioxidants in coffee are known as polyphenols. Sometimes they are bound to a sugar molecule, which covers up the antioxidant group, Vinson said.

The first step in measuring them was to break that sugar link. He noted that chemicals in the stomach do the same thing, freeing the polyphenols.

«We think that antioxidants can be good for you in a number of ways,» including affecting enzymes and genes, though more research is needed, Vinson said.

«If I say more coffee is better, then I would have to tell you to spread it out to keep the levels of antioxidants up,» Vinson said. «We always talk about moderation in anything.»

His findings were released in conjunction with the annual convention of the American Chemical Society in Washington.

In February, a team of Japanese researchers reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute that people who drank coffee daily, or nearly every day, had half the liver cancer risk of those who never drank it. The protective effect occurred in people who drank one to two cups a day and increased at three to four cups.

Last year, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found that drinking coffee cut the risk of developing the most common form of diabetes.

Men who drank more than six 8-ounce cups of caffeinated coffee per day lowered their risk of type 2 diabetes by about half, and women reduced their risk by nearly 30 percent, compared with people who did not drink coffee, according to the study in Annals of Internal Medicine.

Bonnie Liebman, nutrition director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, said she was not surprised by Vinson’s finding, because tea has been known to contain antioxidants.

But Liebman, who was not part of Vinson’s research team, cautioned that while many people have faith that antioxidants will reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and more, 온라인카지노 the evidence has not always panned out. Most experts are looking beyond antioxidants to the combination of vitamins, minerals other nutrition in specific foods, she said.

I’d want to see Iran pull out of Yemen too…and I think they will.» However, administration support for the resolution is not guaranteed

The U.S. Senate on Thursday passed a resolution to end American armed forces’ support for the Saudi-led coalition in the country. The bipartisan resolution concerning war powers, approved 56-41, represents the first time ever the Senate has voted to revoke military support from a congressionally unauthorized war.

The Senate also passed an amendment, introduced by GOP Sen. Todd Young of Indiana, to ensure that mid-air refueling between U.S. and Saudi Air Force, which the U.S. suspended last month, does not resume. But there’s no chance that lawmakers will stop U.S. support for the Saudis’ prosecution of the Yemen war this year because the House will not vote on the measure before the end of the year.

U.S. involvement in the Yemen conflict began in 2015 when the Obama administration offered logistical assistance in Yemen to Saudi Arabia’s forces fighting against Houthi rebels, who are aligned with Iran. Senators supporting the legislative maneuver Thursday say the 1973 War Powers resolution forbids logistical assistance like this from the U.S. without congressional approval.

More in Yemen’s Civil War

After more than four years of fighting, the death toll is now in the tens of thousands, with many of the dead being children suffering from debilitating malnourishment, according to human rights groups. Tens of millions more Yemenis are displaced.

«In a war waged by adults, it is the country’s children who suffer first and suffer most … thousands of Yemeni children could die from severe malnutrition if conditions, including conflict and economic crisis, do not improve soon,» Henrietta Fore, executive director of the U.N. children agency, said recently.

Both the plight of these Yemenis and the Senate resolution gained attention in October after the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi was connected to Saudi Arabia. Support for the resolution was led by a bipartisan group of senators, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Utah Sen. Mike Lee and Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy.

«What the United States Senate said in a very loud way is that we will not continue to have our military posture dedicated by a despotic, murderous regime in Saudi Arabia,» Sanders said after the vote.

«When we are putting American treasure, and even more importantly, American blood on the line, it is wrong to entrust that to one person,» Lee said, arguing that Congress should have its say in war powers.

Six other Republicans joined Lee and Democratic colleagues in supporting the resolution: Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Steve Daines of Montana, Jeff Flake of Arizona, Jerry Moran of Kansas, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Young.

Last week, a similar resolution was introduced in the House by Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif. But a provision slipped into the farm bill by House Speaker Paul Ryan stipulated that the House would not vote this year on the Yemen resolution.

Senators said they hope Democratic House leadership considers a new resolution next year. The Senate, too, would have to vote again on the resolution.

Earlier in the day the Senate also passed a nonbinding resolution declaring that it holds Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman «responsible» for Khashoggi’s death. The chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Bob Corker, who is retiring at the end of the year, introduced the measure.

Murphy welcomed the bipartisanship of the vote as a positive sign.

«What we showed in this vote today is that Republicans and Democrats are ready to get back in the business of working with a president — and sometimes against a president to set the foreign policy of this nation,» the Connecticut senator told reporters.

If passed by the next Congress, President Trump will have to sign and approve the resolution or veto it.

On Tuesday, the president signaled an openness to moving the U.S. away from the conflict. «Well, I’m much more open to Yemen because frankly, I hate to see what’s going on in Yemen,» Mr. Trump told Reuters, «But it takes two to tango. I’d want to see Iran pull out of Yemen too…and I think they will.»

However, administration support for the resolution is not guaranteed. In late November, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, along with Defense Secretary James Mattis, 온라인카지노 tried to lobby senators to continue the U.S. support of the Saudi coalition. At the time, Pompeo said Yemen would be «a hell of a lot worse» if the United States abandoned a role in the Yemen.

American forces continue to provide logistical support and «certain information» to the Saudi and Emirati coalition, Mattis said in October.

Talks between Yemen’s government the Houthi rebels are currently being held in Switzerland. However, Yemen Prime Minister Abdulmalik Maeen Saeed told CBS News on Saturday that help from America in the future is critical.

«The support of the U.S. is important. The government should be in control of every position in Yemen, the institutions should be rebuilt with security and army,» Saeed said.

\ubc14\ub2e4\uc774\uc57c\uae30The illnesses have all been associated with Dole salads bought at Rainbow Foods grocery store outlets in the state. But salads carrying the same production codes have been distributed nationwide, prompting the national warning, 온라인카지노 the FDA said.

At least 11 people have been sickened by a specific type of E. coli that have been connected to the products. Two have been hospitalized. The last reported case connected to the outbreak was reported Sept. 19, the FDA said.

«Given the severity of this illness, FDA believes an urgent warning to consumers is needed. FDA is working closely with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and our state partners to further identify the source of the problem and its scope,» said Dr. Robert Brackett, director of the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, in a statement.

The affected Dole products are:

The «best-if-used-by» code date is one the upper right hand corner of the front of the bag. Stores probably aren’t carrying these salads on their shelves any more, but people may still have some at home. They should be thrown away, the FDA said.

The particular type of E. coli connected to the salads is known as O157:H7. An infection can cause bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Most healthy adults recover within a week, but children under 5 and the elderly are at risk for complications that can lead to kidney damage or death.

Dole Food Co. has issued a recall for the affected salad products, the FDA said.

Seven helmeted South Korean soldiers wearing backpacks, one carrying a camera and another a camcorder, approached the line separating the northern and southern sides of the DMZ

DIY DronesINSIDE THE DEMILITARIZED ZONE — Dozens of North and South Korean soldiers crossed over the world’s most heavily armed border Wednesday as they inspected the sites of their rival’s front-line guard posts to verify they’d been removed, part of inter-Korean engagement efforts that come amid stalled U.S.-North Korea nuclear disarmament talks.

It was the first time since the Demilitarized Zone was created in 1948 to divide the two Koreas that troops from either side crossed the demarcation line peacefully, South Korea’s Ministry of Defense noted.

The inspections Wednesday were mostly symbolic — the removals will leave South Korea with about 50 other DMZ posts and North Korea with 150, according to defense experts in South Korea, but they mark an extraordinary change in ties from last year, when North Korea tested a series of increasingly powerful weapons and threatened Seoul and Washington with war.

More in North Korea

Soldiers from the two Koreas exchanged cigarettes and chatted as they inspected the dismantlement or disarmament of 22 guard posts — 11 from each country — inside the Demilitarized Zone that forms 155-mile-long, 2.5-mile-wide border.

A small group of journalists was allowed to enter the zone to watch a South Korean team leave for 온라인카지노 a North Korean guard post Wednesday morning and a North Korean team come to a South Korean guard post later in the day.

Seven helmeted South Korean soldiers wearing backpacks, one carrying a camera and another a camcorder, approached the line separating the northern and southern sides of the DMZ. North Korean troops then walked in a row down a hill to meet them. The soldiers from the rival Koreas exchanged handshakes before moving up the hill together to go to the dismantled North Korean guard post.

Other groups of South Korean soldiers simultaneously visited 10 other North Korean guard posts. They inspected whether the guard posts and any underground structures have been completely dismantled and whether all troops, weapons and other equipment have been withdrawn, according to Seoul’s Defense Ministry.

Hours later, seven North Korean soldiers clad in olive-green uniforms crossed the same borderline and were then escorted by South Korean troops to the concrete and steel debris of a destroyed South Korean post. North Korean teams also visited 10 other South Korean sites.

South Korea’s liberal president, Moon Jae-in, the driving force behind the current engagement effort, watched parts of the verification broadcast live at an underground bunker in Seoul. Moon called the work «a new milestone» in inter-Korean history that was «unimaginable in the past,» according to his office.

North Korean soldiers allowed South Korean soldiers to use stethoscope-like equipment to inspect whether there were any underground tunnels below the site, South Korean presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom told reporters.

The Demilitarized Zone was originally created as a buffer between the countries at the end of the 1950-53 Korean War. But contrary to its name, the DMZ has become the world’s most heavily fortified frontier after the rival Koreas planted an estimated 2 million mines, deployed combat troops and heavy weapons and set up layers of barbed wire fences.

When the leaders of the Koreas met in Pyongyang in September, they agreed to lower military tensions along their border, including the withdrawal of some DMZ guard posts, halting live-fire exercises near the border, demilitarizing their shared border village of Panmunjom and removing mines at a DMZ area to launch joint searches for Korean War dead.

Conservatives in South Korea have criticized the deals, saying Seoul shouldn’t have agreed to such conventional arms reduction programs because North Korea’s nuclear threat remains unchanged.

U.S.-led nuclear diplomacy aimed at stripping North Korea of its nuclear program has reported little progress since North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump met for a summit in Singapore in June. North Korea has made a vague disarmament pledge, and some experts say the North’s turn to diplomacy after last year’s string of weapons tests is aimed at weakening U.S.-led sanctions.

Nicki Minaj opened up about her fans, her time as a judge on «American Idol» and her future plans in a new interview with Marie Claire.

Appearing on the magazine’s August 2013 cover, the rapper said her time as a judge on the Fox series changed how people perceived her.

«The perception that people had of me completely changed because there are no cue cards, there’s no script, it wasn’t be performing a song,» Minaj, 30, 온라인카지노 explained. «It was, ‘Let’s see you real personality.’ My core is a genuine human being who roots for other people. I didn’t want to blow smoke up their ass. I wanted every contestant to leave with something that they could remember.»

She told the magazine she wants to release more music, but is also interested in pursuing acting.

«I at least want to do three more albums. If I can do that, I’ll feel complete…One day, when I start getting a couple gray hairs, maybe it will all be only acting,» she mused. «I just never know…I’ve kind of become the poster child for doing the things that no one expects.»

She also revealed what she wanted to be if she hadn’t become a rapper — a lawyer.

«I just loved the thought of going into a courtroom with mostly men and defending someone — just being able to persuade people with your words,» she said. «It seems glamorous in a way. Very inspiring and ballsy.»

Minaj spoke about her relationship with her fans, or Barbz («we kind of have our own language»), and the «weird epiphany» she had while on tour in Australia last year.

«I was on a world tour, a big feat for a female rapper. For the first time, I allowed myself to feel proud of where music had gotten me, and I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude,» she recalled. «You feel the need to pay it forward, which starts with analyzing yourself with a true desire to grow. I was praying every day, ‘You know what, Lord? I want to be a mom one day, and I want to start becoming the woman who I want to parent my child.’ I wanted all of the feelings of entitlement to leave me, because some people have this life for a year or five or 10 — and a lot of them lose it. I didn’t want to become a person who wasn’t enjoying the moment.»

The interview also included some of Minaj’s tips about men.

«Don’t chase any man. Put your school first,» she advised. «Men love independent women. You don’t have to be a bitch, but there’s nothing wrong with it at times. And: Men are kids at heart. They want to be nourished and pet like a dog.»

The August issue of Marie Claire will hit newsstands on July 16. See below for another photo of Minaj from the magazine:

Snake-haired, golden Medusa heads still glint from the gates, the swimming pool and flower pots at 1116 Ocean Drive, vestiges of the glamor fashion designer Gianni Versace brought to South Beach, Fla., before his death on his own front steps.

Though the Versace family hasn’t owned the oceanfront mansion since 2000, auctioneers hope the Italian designer’s legacy will attract bidders to the Miami Beach property when it goes up for auction Sept. 17.

Serious inquiries only, please. The minimum bid is set for $25 million. To even see the property, potential buyers must sign a confidentiality agreement and prove they have the money to close a deal.

Each room has been uniquely furnished by the current owner, and the furniture comes with the sale, including beds so large they need custom-made sheets.

Half a dozen buyers have expressed interest since the auction was announced last week, said Lamar Fisher, president and CEO of Fisher Auction Company. «They range from very, very high-profile individuals and celebrities to international buyers from the Russian market to the South American market,» Fisher said.

It’s been officially named Casa Casuarina for more than a decade, but the property still commonly referred to as «the Versace mansion» was initially listed for sale at $125 million last year. The asking price dropped to $100 million and then last month to $75 million.

Casa Casuarina operated as a private club and then as a boutique hotel until earlier this year. A bankruptcy court appointed Fisher Auction Company to put the property up for auction.

Versace and an entourage of celebrity friends that included Madonna, Cher and Elton John helped revive South Beach in the 1990s from a retirement community known as «God’s waiting room» to the pulsating, almost-anything-goes party hub that attracts tourists today.

The designer bought a neglected three-story, Mediterranean-style home, originally built in 1930 by Standard Oil heir Alden Freeman, and a dilapidated hotel next door in 1992 and spent $33 million on renovations. The 23,000-square-foot mansion now has 10 bedrooms, 온라인카지노 11 bathrooms, a 54-foot-long mosaic pool lined with 24-karat gold tiles and an open-air courtyard. Panoramic views of the ocean can be seen from a rooftop observatory

Versace was fatally shot on the mansion’s stone front steps in 1997 by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, who later shot himself as a police search closed in on him. No one inside the mansion’s gates Tuesday wanted to talk about Versace’s death, except to point out that he was slain outside its doors.

Versace’s death wasn’t the mansion’s only link to scandal. High-profile attorney Scott Rothstein owned a share in the mansion after its 2000 sale, until federal agents seized it among his other assets in their investigation into a massive Ponzi scheme. Rothstein is now serving a 50-year prison sentence.

Just who will be leaving Bon Temps for 온라인카지노 good when season six of «True Blood» comes to a close on Aug. 18?

At this year’s Comic-Con panel, the fang-tastic series teased a central character’s demise, but when approached about the season-ending twist, the cast was, predictably, tight lipped about the outcome.

«If we don’t kill people that we love and care about, then the show loses its jeopardy and its sense of urgency,» explained Anna Paquin, who compared the impact of this particular killing to the murder of Sookie Stackhouse’s grandmother in season one.

Added cast-mate Rutina Wesley, «Some may like it, some may not… Everyone has their favorite character but, I mean, we’re a big family so I think whether you’re a guest star, recurring, or whoever it is, it hurts.»

«And everyone’s actually crying,» said Paquin.

Lilly warned doctors in December to stop using Strattera in patients with jaundice or who show signs of liver problems, and it placed a warning on the label and in prescribing information after at least two patients on the medication developed liver problems

Manufacturer Eli Lilly & Co. announced that a black-box warning will be added to the drug’s label in the United States. Such a warning is the most serious that can be added to a medication’s label, and similar warnings will be added to the drug’s labels in other countries. The company said a study showed instances of suicidal thinking were rare.

In a statement, the FDA said it «is advising health care providers and caregivers that children and adolescents being treated with Strattera should be closely monitored for clinical worsening, as well as agitation, irritability, suicidal thinking or behaviors, and unusual changes in behavior, especially during the initial few months of therapy or when the dose is changed.»

Eli Lilly said it provided the FDA results from a Strattera clinical trial of 1,357 patients that found five youths taking the medication reported having suicidal thoughts, while none of 851 patients taking a placebo reported having any. One young person taking Strattera attempted suicide, the company said.

There was no evidence of increased suicidal thoughts in adults taking Strattera, which also goes by the generic name atomoxetine, the Indianapolis-based company said.

The warning is the result of a larger FDA review of psychiatric drugs and their possible association with suicide, the agency said.

Strattera has been available since 2002 and been used by more than two million people, the FDA said.

The drug won praise from some doctors and parents when it became available because, 온라인카지노 unlike Ritalin, it is not a stimulant, a class of drug that can be addictive. But its chemical makeup is similar to certain antidepressants, which last year were associated with an increased risk of suicide.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder affects as many as 7 percent of school-aged children and 4 percent of adults in the United States.

Strattera’s worldwide sales have dropped lately, falling 31 percent to $123.5 million during this year’s second quarter from a year earlier.

Lilly warned doctors in December to stop using Strattera in patients with jaundice or who show signs of liver problems, and it placed a warning on the label and in prescribing information after at least two patients on the medication developed liver problems.

Still, the company says it believes the drug is safe.

«While suicidal thinking was uncommon in patients on the medication during clinical trials, it is important for parents to be aware it can occur, and to discuss any unusual symptoms with a physician,» said Alan Breier, Lilly’s chief medical officer, in a statement. «Lilly continues to view Strattera as a safe and effective treatment option, and those doing well on the medication should be able to continue their treatment with confidence.»

Murray, who agreed to work on the «This Is It» shows for $150,000 a month, provided Jackson with propofol as a sleep aid

A doctor who treated Michael Jackson during a 1993 concert tour that had to be canceled when the singer entered rehab testified Monday about the signs that led him to conclude the singer had a problem with prescription pain medications at the time.

In videotaped testimony, Dr. Stuart Finkelstein said he was later asked by concert promoter AEG Live to act as Jackson’s personal physician during the ill-fated «This Is It» tour in 2009 but wanted to know if Jackson was «clean.»

AEG executive Paul Gongaware said he didn’t believe Jackson had any prescription drug issues, Finkelstein testified.

Finkelstein’s testimony was recorded during a February deposition that was played for jurors hearing a negligence lawsuit by Jackson’s mother against AEG Live LLC. Katherine Jackson claims AEG failed to properly investigate another doctor who later gave her son an overdose of the anesthetic propofol and that the company ignored warning signs about her son’s health.

Finkelstein said he first suspected Jackson had a dependence on pain medications in 1993 while working on the «Dangerous» tour. He recounted spending 24 hours in the singer’s hotel suite and administering morphine intravenously to deal with Jackson’s pain.

He said he gave Jackson morphine during their first meeting because the singer’s buttocks were scarred from previous unspecified treatments and he was concerned about giving an injection of the painkiller Demerol.

He said he also noticed that Jackson appeared to have a high tolerance for morphine and had on a patch that administered another opiate drug.

Finkelstein said he gave Jackson one other painkiller treatment before the «Dangerous» tour was halted after what he described as an intervention by Elizabeth Taylor and others in Mexico City.

Jurors also heard Monday from Kenny Ortega, 온라인카지노 a choreographer and director who worked with Jackson on preparations for the «Dangerous» tour and later shows, including «This Is It.» Ortega was not present on the «Dangerous» tour at the same time as Finkelstein and testified that he never saw Jackson take any medications.

Ortega, who raised concerns about Jackson’s health during rehearsals for the «This Is It» shows, has not yet testified in details about his interactions with the singer in his final months. Ortega will resume testifying on Tuesday afternoon.

The doctor, who now specializes in addiction medicine and works for concert promoters treating injuries to performers, said he relayed his concerns about Jackson’s painkiller use to Gongaware, then a «Dangerous» tour worker.

Gongaware is now a top AEG Live executives and a friend of Finkelstein, the physician said.

Finkelstein said he and Gongaware had five to 10 conversations in 2009 about working on Jackson’s «This Is It» shows. Finkelstein said he wanted $40,000 a month and was not hired.

Jackson died after Dr. Conrad Murray administered an overdose of the anesthetic propofol on June 25, 2009. Murray, who agreed to work on the «This Is It» shows for $150,000 a month, provided Jackson with propofol as a sleep aid.

AEG Live denies it hired Murray and says it bears no responsibility for Jackson’s death.

Finkelstein is the first medical professional who treated Jackson to testify in the case, now in its 11th week.

Last week, jurors heard from addiction medicine specialist Dr. Sidney Schnoll, a paid expert witness who said he did not see anything in Jackson’s medical history that indicated the singer was addicted to any medications. His analysis was based on medical records that dated back to the late 1990s, after the «Dangerous» tour.

Finkelstein said many of his records involving his «Dangerous» tour treatment of Jackson had been stolen.

It was approved for use in 1963 and became the country’s most prescribed drug from 1969 to 1982

Sternbach, an award-winning chemist who helped the Swiss drug conglomerate Roche Group build its U.S. headquarters in Nutley, New Jersey, after fleeing the Nazis during World War II, died in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, after a short illness late Wednesday. His wife, 온라인카지노 sons and other relatives were at his side, according to the company.

An Austrian native who said he loved chemistry from his youth, Sternbach led development of more than a dozen important drugs during a six-decade career with Roche. His other breakthroughs include the sleeping pills Dalmane and Mogadon, Klonopin for epileptic seizures and Arfonad for limiting bleeding during brain surgery.

Valium owes its success to the stubborn streak of chemist Leo Sternbach, who refused to quit after his boss at Hoffmann-La Roche ended a project to develop a tranquilizer to compete with a rival company’s drug.

Sternbach tested one last version and in just a day, he got the results: The compound made animals relaxed and limp.

Sternbach had made the discovery that eventually led to Valium. It was approved for use in 1963 and became the country’s most prescribed drug from 1969 to 1982.

Nicknamed «Mother’s Little Helper» after the Rolling Stones song, it was three times more potent than its predecessor, Librium, another member of the class of tranquilizers invented by Sternbach.

Roche sold nearly 2.3 billion Valium pills stamped with the trademark «V» at the drug’s 1978 peak.

«It gave you a feeling of well-being,» Sternbach told The Associated Press in a 2003 interview on the 40th anniversary of Valium. «Only when the sales figures came in, then I realized how important it was.»

«It was chic,» said Dr. Norman Sussman, professor of psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine. «Everyone was on it and talking about it» in an era of anxiety called the rat race.

Sternbach was born in 1908 in Abbazia, part of the Austrian Empire that today is Croatia, and earned a doctoral degree in organic chemistry at the University of Krakow in Poland. He began working at Roche’s Basel headquarters in 1940 and in June 1941 fled to the United States with his new bride and the rest of Roche’s Jewish scientists.

He and his wife, Herta, settled in Montclair, near Roche’s U.S. operations, called Hoffman-La Roche, raised two sons and lived there until 2003, when they moved to North Carolina, where son Daniel works as a chemist for GlaxoSmithKline.

Named one of the 25 most influential Americans of the 20th century by U.S. News & World Report, Sternbach’s credits include 241 patents, 122 publications, honorary degrees and other awards.

As recently as 1994, Roche products for which Sternbach held patents brought in more than one-quarter of the company’s worldwide pharmaceutical revenues.

Besides his wife and son Daniel, Sternbach is survived by his other son, Michael, and five grandchildren.

A Virginia man who was a personal assistant and financial manager for Dave Matthews Band violinist Boyd Tinsley has admitted embezzling at least $400,000 from the musician.

Getty Andrew Rothenberg, 39, who had been friends with Tinsley, 49, pleaded guilty Tuesday to wire fraud in federal court in Charlottesville, Va., court documents showed.

Rothenberg was initially paid $50,000 a year to pay Tinsley’s personal bills and expenses and direct investments for him. He also handled various personal and financial arrangements for Tinsley’s wife, court documents said. Rothenberg’s salary was later increased to $60,000.

Rothenberg routinely padded the bills and took the excess money for personal use from 2009 through 2012. He also withdrew cash from several accounts controlled by Tinsley, wrote checks to himself and accessed lines of credit established in Tinsley’s name.

In one transaction on Feb. 21, 2012, Rothenberg obtained $45,596. He got $41,388 in another transaction on Oct. 11, 2011. Other amounts ranged from about $1,200 to more than $14,000, according to court documents.

Rothenberg faces up to 30 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Sept. 17.

Rothenberg’s lawyer, Tom Bondurant, 온라인카지노 said during Tuesday’s hearing Tinsley discovered the missing money and confronted Rothenberg in 2012, media outlets reported.

Bondurant said the two men had been friends for about 20 years.

«Andrew Rothenberg is a good man. He got caught up in some unfortunate circumstances,» Bondurant said. «He knows what he did is wrong.»

U.S. Attorney Timothy Heaphy commended Tinsley for coming forward.

«This was a case he initiated — that when he discovered the fraud, he came forward,» Heaphy said.

Tinsley and the rest of the Dave Matthews Band are currently on tour. Their next show is scheduled for Wednesday night in Charlotte, N.C.

You’re killing me, Smalls!

Some of the cast members of the 1993 summer baseball classic «The Sandlot» teamed up on Saturday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film’s release.

Notably absent from the reunion were Tom Guiry, who played the main character Scotty «Smalls,» and Mike Vitar, 온라인카지노 who played the team’s star player, «Benny the Jet» Rodriguez. Vitar retired from show business in the late 1990s and has since become a firefighter in Los Angeles.

Actors who were on hand in Salt Lake City (where the film was shot over two decades ago) for the reunion included Patrick Renna («Ham»), Chauncey Leopardi («Squints») and Shane Obedzinski, who played «Repeat» in the film. «The Sandlot» writer and director David M. Evans was also at the Utah ceremony honoring the film’s shooting location, with more than 12,000 fans in attendance. Evans also took the time to propose to his girlfriend at the reunion (she accepted).

ESPN posted a photo on Twitter from the event:

Renna and Leopardi also posted shots from the reunion. Even with the passage of time, both men still bear strong resemblances to how they appeared in the film:

Co-starring Karen Allen and James Earl Jones, «The Sandlot» wasn’t a huge blockbuster at the box office when it first opened in theaters. It wasn’t until it was released on home video when young viewers then latched on to the film’s sweet-natured tale about a group of neighborhood kids who love to play baseball.

«The Sandlot» has since spawned iconic catchphrases like «for-ev-er» and «you’re killing me, Smalls!» and is fondly remembered by a generation of fans who grew up watching the film.

Even though he didn’t attend the Salt Lake City reunion, Guiry did speak to the Huffington Post in April to explain why he thinks the film has had such an impact on viewers.

«I think what it does is it brings people back to a time in their lives that it was fun and kind of innocent,» Guiry said. «They didn’t have to worry about bills and work. It was a carefree time of everyone’s life. It’s fun to watch people reminisce about it.»

Fans shouldn’t fret if they’ve missed the Salt Lake City event as they’ll still have a chance to join in on the fun. Evans and his actors are in the midst of a «Sandlot» reunion tour across the nation, which will continue in select cities and wrap up on Sept. 21 in Lawrenceville, Ga. A list of upcoming cities and dates can be found here.
